Utilize Wellness Plans to Stay Active in Winter

With cold weather approaching, lifestyle changes come as well. More time spent inside, doing this like eating pumpkin pie or cookies. While this is a great time of year, it’s not the healthiest. Unhealthy employees lead to more doctor visits and more expenses for everyone. Implementing a wellness plan in your company is a great way to help keep everyone and their pockets safe.

Wellness plans are a great, inexpensive way to encourage healthy employees. A typical wellness plan may consist of annual checkups and maintaining certain health or activity levels. When an employee meets these goals, there is some sort of reward. This can be done with your insurance company, and potentially lower your expenses. If you’re looking for an easier route to encourage a healthy lifestyle, a wellness plan could just be set up in your workplace. Within your company, this could be arranged however you think would be best for you and your employees.

You decide on your goals for employees, and the reward for them for achieving these goals. Whether it’s having 30 minutes logged doing something outside a day or anything else you think suits your workforce, this can be a great way to encourage activity, and give workers a topic of discussion. One important note is to make sure the activities you present are non-discriminatory. If an employee is unable to do a task or the expectations are unreasonable to them, it could raise concerns for you. Have a backup option prepared or have another solution ready to go. Either way, it’s a great way to build camaraderie in the workplace, make you a sought-after employer, and keep your staff healthy!
