The Risk Management of Pandemic Fatigue, Not Easy, but Essential to Normalcy

COVID is still hot! Cases are being reported at high rates despite more and more people getting vaccinated. However states are relaxing restrictions on public gatherings and restaurants are being allowed to seat more patrons in the face of these continued infections. Employers are also bringing workers back to the office at a rapid pace. Some say we are moving too fast and letting our guard down too soon.

The reason for this is "Pandemic Fatigue".  Folks are at their wits end with this virus and any chance to get back to some normalcy will be taken.

Pandemic Fatigue presents a tough risk management problem for everyone. As the inertia builds to open everything back up, and vaccinations increase, most will get a false sense of security and stop masking, social distancing, and hand sanitizing and washing.

These techniques that we all are very familiar with, need to continue. The degree of masking, distancing and hand washing can be dependent upon where you are in the vaccination process, exposures to others who are not vaccinated, and your co-morbidities. A faster return to normalcy is the reward for not giving up these preventive measures to soon.

Getting back to the way we were needs to be a transition, that carries along the risk management techniques that we have all been doing for over a year. This is no different than the firemen who has successfully put out the fire, but goes into the building with their helmet, respirator, and a water charged fire hose, just to make sure.

COVID risk management allows life to go back to normal, it does not stifle it. Along with the miracle of vaccines, it is one of the answers to beating the virus and or living with it.  The good news is, everyone knows how to do it. We have had over 12 months of practice.

Until next time be careful out there and know your risks.
